CTC TEA V/S ORTHODOX TEA

We all know that Tea is the second most popular beverage in the world. But how well do we know this beverage inside and out? Not even a little apart from the certain flavors, taste, brands or ingredients. The most common topic for discussion what is “CTC tea” and “Orthodox tea”. These two are most popular varieties of blends in the market.

CTC the acronym refers to ‘crush, tear and curl’ or ‘cut, tear and curl’ and it’s a process wherein leaves are put through cylindrical rollers that crush and cut the tea leaves into even sized pallets. Orthodox tea basically refers to the loose leaf tea which is produced using the standard method of tea production which includes various steps such as plucking, withering, disruption, fermentation, fixation, sweltering, rolling, drying and aging.

Let’s see some of the notable difference between the CTC and orthodox tea. While CTC tea has the faster manufacturing and reliably consistent flavors, Orthodox tea tend to focus on a single leaf and extracting the most flavor from the same. Because CTC takes less time to produce, it is cost effective and readily available in the market in varied packets. On the other hand, orthodox tea process is time consuming, requires lot of manual labor and has a high price range.

Taking into consideration the flavor both the teas have great aromas, distinct in their flavor and differ in the authenticity of the flavors. For orthodox teas, whether it is black, green, oolong or white it is very rich and subtle in flavor. Moreover, the health benefits of the orthodox teas outweigh to those of the CTC due to the fact that in orthodox the real essence is not lost in the process.

Now that you know a certain difference between both the teas, it comes down to your taste buds and your flavor preferences. Both CTC and orthodox teas have something different to offer and are great options when it comes to enjoying your morning cuppa of tea.
